Finn European Championship 2003 - Ben Ainslie takes the lead after two races of first day |
MARSTRAND, SWEDEN-(6-6-2003) After the two races on the first day of sailing in Finn European Championships in Marstrand, Ben Ainslie for Great Britain is in the lead, followed by Belgian Sebastien Godefroid. Coming in third is Michael Fellman, Germany. Karlo Kuret from Croatia, number one on the world ranking, was seventh after today's races. The best Swedish sailor was Kristian Åderman in 27th place. 76 boats started.
– Rough seas, westerly winds and a heavy swell made for good but demanding sailing conditions, Bert Isaksson, Race Committee Chairman, commented.
With winds above 9 m/s (17 knots), both races were sailed on triangular courses. Courses are set to take 90 minutes to complete, but today’s first race took an extra 15 minutes, since the angle of the firs reach was off by 45 degrees. In the second race, the Race Committee did a good job; the first boat finished after 91 minutes. Top 5 results 1 GBR 3 Ben Ainslie ... 3 1 4
